TONIC TRIBE Spotlight Series: vol. 1

reverse warrior yoga girl

Natural Pain Relief w/ Serena (@theyogijedi)

Serena is a personal trainer & yoga instructor. And at the risk of making this sound like a biased post, she is also one of my best friends. We worked together as Equinox trainers and when I wanted to enter the world of yoga, I enlisted her help (best decision I ever made because I absolutely fell in love with yoga and got a new BFF!).

We were practicing together while I was starting TONIC and between all of her sore muscles from working out on top of chronic pain from a previous injury, Serena was my perfect tester!

I knew that she was trying it at first to be a nice lady and support her friend, but then (I love witnessing these moments) I saw the look on her face when she realized it actually worked!

Since then Serena has been hooked, and I really do consider that a testament to the product – she isn’t the type to waste her money or time on something she doesn’t like or believe in … and she has no problem expressing that! Seriously, I’ve seen her in action.

So, I wanted Serena to share her story and be the inaugural post in our new TONIC TRIBE Spotlight Series – a collection of stories/testimonials/knowledge from real TONIC customers.

**if you’d like to contribute & be featured, please email me!! brittany@tonicvibes.com**

Enjoy Serena’s story & follow her on social (@theyogijedi) for yoga/fitness content, pictures of her cats & some posts on how she incorporates Chill TONIC into her meditation and relaxation rituals!

“I am a personal trainer and yoga instructor. I weight train, run, practice yoga, and hike or walk pretty regularly. Needless to say, I am pretty active. As any active person could testify to, I have the typical aches and pains that go along with leading that type lifestyle. Thanks to a car accident several years ago, I also suffer from chronic pain and muscle tightness in my neck and upper back.

Sometimes, a spasm can travel all the way into the base of my skull. If it gets bad enough, I’ll get migraines and they can be debilitating. In addition to the throbbing and discomfort that comes with a normal headache, my migraines trigger light sensitivity, dizziness, and nausea. When a migraine hits, it is extremely difficult for me to get out of bed, much less drive my car and get to work. If I don’t work, I don’t make money.

For a long time, I turned to ibuprofen more often than not in order to alleviate the discomfort I felt. Oftentimes that meant taking it daily. Sometimes twice a day.

Why is this a problem? Ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory and it does its job well enough; it would relieve my neck pain and reduce the risk of a debilitating migraine, so, where’s the issue?

  • For starters, the problem with NSAIDs (or any systemic drug for that matter) is that they can affect the entire body, not just the area that hurts. So, while it may treat one problem, it is likely that it’ll cause a different reaction elsewhere in the body.
  • Secondly, the most common side effect of prolonged usage of NSAIDs (for example: Advil, Bayer, Motrin IB, Aleve) is damage to your gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach, and small intestine).
  • NSAIDs have also been linked to causing bleeding ulcers and in some individuals, high blood pressure and kidney damage. Yikes.

We eat healthy in my house for the most part. Even our cleaning supplies, detergents, and soaps are natural. Most of my beauty products are also natural – did you know that an ingredient in a lot of mascara is bat shit? Bat shit. IN YOUR EYE! Really makes you stop and think about what else might be in your beauty products.

So, if I live a healthy lifestyle by eating right, exercising, and being mindful about what products go on top of my skin (our body’s largest organ, by the way), how could I continue to use NSAIDs at that kind of frequency? The reason for that is that I never found a natural product that actually worked for me.

…until I tried TONIC. I started off using Warrior, which Brittany gave me for my sore muscles during our yoga practice one day, but then when my chronic neck pain was really acting up, she had me try Chronic instead; it was a game changer.

I know I can feel comfortable recommending TONIC to my clients and yoga students to help them manage their muscle and joint pain because

  1. TONIC is an open book. All of the product ingredients (which are minimal and organic) are clearly listed and explained on the website and directly on the packaging. You know exactly what you’re putting in your body (oh, yes – anything applied to your skin is a direct shot into your bloodstream, so it’s no joke).
  2. Chronic & Warrior TONIC are topical applications, not oral. Therefore, it’s applied directly to the area that needs attention, unlike NSAIDs.
  3. Most importantly, it works. And it works quickly.

I carry my TONIC in gym bag and when there’s even the slightest hint of something brewing in my neck and traps, I apply it, massage it into my tender spots and don’t have to think about it again. I can get ahead of a potential spasm quickly and safely and because of this, I don’t suffer from as many migraines anymore! Game. Changer.”

Generation Stress

home alone screaming face

Millennial Mindset

Millennials – broadly speaking, those of us born 1980-2000 – get a bad rep; we can be a bit entitled, crave praise too much & are inept when it comes to face-to-face interactions.

Sure, all those things are true, but we also are more tolerant, more educated, more connected & harder working than our predecessors.

All of those great things about millennials are also our biggest stress triggers

We are so tolerant that we get anxiety about how to be politically correct & avoid offending people (I’ll be honest I keep going back and forth deleting and retyping this, trying to find a way to express this idea without inciting reactions such as “you shouldn’t have to work so hard to not offend people….” aaand point made).

We are so educated that we have full awareness of how completely fucked we are.

  • We are living in a time where if you are not outraged, you are not paying attention.
  • There is a reason for the old saying “ignorance is bliss”.
  • Being more educated also means that you are probably in debt. College debt is a huge problem
  • The economy cannot sustain the amount of college graduates hitting the job market between 2010 and 2020 (NY Post)… and because we are educated, we are extremely aware of this reality.

We are so connected that we suffer constant FOMO, are chronically overstimulated & actually become addicted to that constant stimulation.

  • We are so connected to our social networks, news media, etc that we become disconnected to the present moment.
  • It seems paradoxical, but it has become a fairly well known phenomena – Millennials are the loneliest generation, despite having everybody we know at our fingertips at all times.

We are so hard working that we have become labeled “work martyrs”.

  • We work longer hours
  • We remain connected / available on the weekends and after regular office hours
  • We are less likely to take vacations
  • We get paid proportionately less than previous generations at the same points in our careers.

NO WONDER WE ARE ALL INTERNALLY MAKING THE HOME ALONE SCREAMING FACE ALL DAY, EVERY DAY!

Ok, We Have Reason to Be Stressed. Thanks. Now What?

The immense amount of stress & anxiety thrust upon our shoulders has also led to the age of “self care”. Ya know, just like generally taking care of ourselves and not being attached to our phones every second of everyday, that kind of stuff, is now a ground breaking concept.

You see the term self-care everywhere, but I know (I’m guilty of it, too) you’re like ‘OK self-care is super important, I know, and I’ll get to it right after I [fill in the blank]’ … OR you practice self-care just to post about it on social and then proceed to incessantly check to see how many likes it got (again, not judging, I’ve been there).

We really need to slow our roll, people. If you honestly take a step back to look at our lives this shit is INSANE. So here are some helpful stress-relief tools that, in my opinion, can be easily incorporated into our daily routines.

Diet

There is a difference between “self-care” & “treat yo self”, although we seem to use these terms interchangeably. Indulging in some pizza & cookies is a “treat yo self” moment, it is not self-care. I am all for rewarding yourself with something that makes you happy for a few fleeting moments… no, seriously I can’t begin to express how big of a fan of pizza & chocolate I am… BUT I am also very, very aware of the difference I feel when I over indulge – sluggishness, irritability, inability to focus. This quote from the Harvard Health Blog sums it up pretty well ….

“Like an expensive car, your brain functions best when it gets only premium fuel. Eating high-quality foods that contain lots of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants nourishes the brain and protects it from oxidative stress — the “waste” (free radicals) produced when the body uses oxygen, which can damage cells.

Unfortunately, just like an expensive car, your brain can be damaged if you ingest anything other than premium fuel. If substances from “low-premium” fuel (such as what you get from processed or refined foods) get to the brain, it has little ability to get rid of them. Diets high in refined sugars, for example, are harmful to the brain. In addition to worsening your body’s regulation of insulin, they also promote inflammation and oxidative stress. Multiple studies have found a correlation between a diet high in refined sugars and impaired brain function — and even a worsening of symptoms of mood disorders, such as depression.”

I’m not saying overhaul you’re entire diet and lifestyle, just saying find that balance between treating yourself & caring for yourself. Stay on the straight & narrow 80% of the time when it comes to your diet, and save that other 20% for the treats you deserve 🙂

Breathing & Mini Meditations

Never underestimate the power of you. Everything we need is within us. The question is: is your power dormant or energized, living its best life?

If you’re feeling stressed & anxious, my guess is your power is dormant. WAKE THAT BITCH UP.

Remember all of those things we touched on at the start of this post? All that stuff is understandably stressful & when we don’t address ourselves and our role in the craziness, we let the craziness take us over. Here is a really simple way to grasp what I’m trying to express:

Remember in High School when you weren’t invited to a party & the next day everybody was talking about it and had inside jokes that you weren’t a part? Remember you were convinced there was no coming back from this and your life was over and you had no friends? Now when you look back on these times, do you say “OMG how did I ever make it out of these life or death situations in one piece” or do you say “OMG I can’t believe how big of a deal I thought that was, how silly”. Probably the latter, right?

Now, in grown up life the stakes are admittedly higher, but still really not life or death. You’ll still probably be a little embarrassed when you look back from the other side of the situation. Speaking from experience, again. I have a mental breakdown at least once a week due to the stresses of being a solopreneur with no money, but after I snap out of it (using these techniques) I’m like ‘oops, that was a bit much, sorry everybody!’

nothing to see here, just a false alarm mental breakdown

When you feel like it’s all too much, start by focusing on your breath.

  • With every inhale, feel your belly expanding & filling with the power of everything you need
  • With every exhale, feel your belly contract as you force out everything that is no longer serving you
  • Repeat with every breath “I can & I will”
  • Realize that your energy is the energy of the universe & that you are in control
  • Remember that in the grand scheme of things, you will be ok

You have to really believe it, though. Don’t bullshit yourself. Or else you’ll just be an idiot sitting there breathing heavily talking to yourself. Believe that you are the most powerful tool at your disposable & it will become truth. It’s that little bit of perspective – that’s all it takes to realize that the world is not crashing down on you; that life goes on; that you will be OK.

Disconnect (just before you go to bed, don’t worry!)

About an hour before you go to sleep, put your phone away. Turn it off if you can, but if you can’t (because you use it as your alarm or something like that) just turn off the WiFi & put it on airplane mode. But really try to put it out of sight

Studies have shown that even having our phones next to us & visible cause a marked difference in our ability to focus. The same study shows that there is a significant spike in cortisol (stress hormone) when we hear our phone alert us/feel it vibrate.

Nobody’s going to be pissed at you for answering an email at 9AM instead of 9PM. You can even tell them that you are doing a digital detox & don’t allow blue light exposure after 8PM and that way they’ll be so impressed by your enlightened lifestyle, immediately feel inferior & you’ll look back at that as the time when your wellness influencer career was launched & you officially transitioned into a plant based beam of light who does yoga every morning…. or something like that.

But really, most of us aren’t doctors or holding somebody’s life in the balance every time our phone rings, so just chill.

Engaging with tech before bed also leads to worse sleep, which leads to worse mood, increased irritability, less focus and then more anxiety because you can’t get all the shit done that you need to and you keep scrolling through instagram thinking how is that plant based beam of light doing it all? Why can’t I be like her? Seriously. It’s a vicious cycle.

and now for the shameless plug ….

The Good Vibe Tribe: OG warrior & Chill TONIC

TONIC CBD Oil

I am sure you have heard of the anti-anxiety benefits of CBD oil. It is one of the main things that draws people in, myself included. Going hand in hand with the anxiety relief, CBD helps defend your body against the effects of chronic stress. It is an adaptogen, which means its primary goal is to restore & maintain homeostasis: our bodies’ ideal state of balance.

Ashwagandha, found in our OG & Chill blends, is also an adaptogen. When CBD & Ashwagandha team up it is an all out anxiety-relieving, balancing, restorative extravaganza. Ashwgandha has been clinically proven to lower cortisol levels (stress hormone), which is huge because prolonged, chronic exposure to cortisol can really wreak havoc on our minds & bodies.

The power couple of CBD & Ashwagandha (our OG blend) balances mood, immune function, sleep patterns & blood sugar, while improving focus & mental clarity and relieving pain & inflammation.

So what’s the difference between Chill & OG? Chill takes the calming effects to the next level by adding Lemon Balm & Passion Flower

Adding CBD into your regimen is a super easy way to not only provide immediate relief from symptoms of high stress/anxiety, but to fortify your body’s defenses against future attacks from the almighty cloud of stress hovering over all of us. YAY HAVE A LOVELY DAY!

but really, life is hard. we are all suffering & this post was in no way meant to diminish that. My hope is that you feel empowered & start taking the steps to put your mental & physical health into your own hands with all natural solutions like CBD oil. My heart & soul has gone into formulating TONIC; I blend, fill & ship each bottle myself and this all started with me looking for a natural solution for my own mental suffering. The combination of CBD & Ashwagandha changed my life so much that I had to share it with the world. Now I am on my mission to spread the love & light. Hope you will join me!

What’s the Best Way to Take CBD?

trying to figure out what CBD is best for you
when you google CBD & find a million options all claiming to be the best

There are a lot of options out there – from full spectrum to isolate; from topicals, to edibles, to sublingual drops, to capsules, to vapes, all with different dosage options – so how do you know what is right for you and your needs? We want to help clear up the confusion and give you the clearest path to better vibes with our #FixYourVibe Guide to CBD Dosing & Delivery

Full Spectrum Extracts vs. Pure CBD Isolate

CBD is one of many cannabinoids (compounds found in the cannabis/hemp plant) that interact with our Endocannabinoid System in order to restore balance & promote healing. When your CBD is from a full spectrum extract or whole plant extract, you are getting other plant compounds that have their own sets of benefits and can activate your Endocannabinoid System in different ways.

You may have heard of something called “the entourage effect”. The entourage effect describes the way that cannabinoids, terpenes and other therapeutic plant compounds all work together to enhance each other’s effects. The entourage effect lends itself to the conclusion that full spectrum extracts are superior to isolate formulations, which is definitely a valid argument, but there is also a time and place for isolate.

One thing to be cautious of when looking in to purchasing a full spectrum CBD oil is the presence of THC.

To be compliant with section 7606 of the US Farm Bill, industrial hemp’s THC content (the cannabinoid responsible for the “high”/ psychoactive effects of cannabis) must fall below .3%.

So, let’s say you get a full spectrum CBD oil that has .23% THC. At that level, the THC is low enough to be considered legal under the statutes of the Farm Bill, but high enough to cause a failed drug test.

Because of concerns such as drug testing, many turn to isolate-based products.

Isolate is a crystalline powder that consists of pure CBD. There are no other cannabinoids or plant compounds. There is also no smell or taste with isolate, which makes it easier to formulate with. This definitely takes a lot of the risk away from purchasing CBD, but does it take away the benefits as well?

TONIC's answer to this question...

We use a broad spectrum hemp extract in our sublingual doses and isolate in our topical oils!

Broad spectrum means that our oil DOES retain therapeutic plant compounds such as terpenes, healthy fats and vitamins&minerals, but DOES NOT contain THC.

Why not use that for our topicals?

We experimented with both a full spectrum and an isolate-based formula when developing our Warrior and Chronic blends.

The isolate was definitely easier to work with when it came to getting a high dose in a small size without having to worry about smell, stickiness, or viscosity. So, we did some blind comparisons on friends, family, co-workers, really anybody who was willing to give it a try, to see if the entourage effect was as important in topicals.

The verdict was that there was no difference in effectiveness between the 2 formulations (of course, this can vary as everybody’s Endocannabinoid System reacts a little differently and THC, but we felt we used a strong sample of people to make our decision).

The special combination of essential oils used in TONIC Topicals also contribute to the effectiveness of our formula.

& it should be noted that we tried a similar experiment with the sublingual doses and found it to be true that a whole plant extract (minus the THC) provided longer lasting and more balanced effects.

happy customer who found relief from pain using TONIC

@soulful_savv sharing her amazing experience with Warrior TONIC!

Speaking of Topicals…. are they your best option for pain relief?

Topicals are perfect for concentrated, targeted relief from pain and inflammation.

Topicals work where they are applied, penetrating the skin and tissue in that area to manage inflammation and pain perception. Whether it is acute or chronic pain, if it is pretty constant in one or two areas, topicals are definitely a great choice.

If the pain is more widespread, nerve related, or severe, then ingesting CBD might be a better option for you as it will travel through the bloodstream to relieve systemic inflammation and improve immune/nerve function that may be imbalanced and contributing to your pain. But there are still a lot of options when it comes to ingesting CBD….

[read more about CBD&Pain Relief]

Edibles/Gel Caps vs. Sublingual vs. Vapes

For the best rate of absorption sublingual and vape delivery are clear winners. Both allow CBD to be absorbed into the bloodstream more readily, delivering faster and more reliable activation of the Endocannabinoid System.

Edibles and capsules need to pass through the liver and other organs of the digestive system, leaving only a percentage of the CBD you just ingested to be bioavailable. But, when consumed in high amounts (over 150mg/day), the excess CBD that isn’t initially absorbed get stored in fat cells and can be gradually released use by the Endocannabinoid System. This could be a great option for those seeking treatment for chronic conditions.

When using our sublingual doses, hold your dose under your tongue for as long as you can to maximize absorption. Even a “good” absorption rate achieved through sublingual dosing or vaping is still around 35-40%. That is why you won’t see any of our 30mL tinctures below 600mg – even at lower, daily-maintenance-type doses, we want to make sure we are giving you enough of what you need to get real results… which leads us to our next (and final) question….

How Much is "Enough"?

Forgive me, but I have to start with the usual caveat when it comes to dosing: everybody is different, your needs depend on your unique Endocannabinoid System as well as factors such as height & weight, metabolism & severity of symptoms

Rule of thumb: start small (1/2 dropper or less) and work your way up until you find your “sweet spot”. Sometimes waking your ECS up with a smaller dose can be more effective than flooding the system, so don’t always assume that more is more!! Even breaking up a full dose into 2 half-doses a few hours apart could be a good option!

*Following recommendations are for TONIC products. As you learned from all the info stated earlier in this article, not all CBD supplements are equal, so I only feel comfortable making recommendations for TONIC products*

For general wellness, maintaining balance:

5-10mg/day

Bare 600 – 1 dropper per day

OG – 1/2 dropper 1-2x per day

Bare 800 – 1/2 dropper per day

For Anxiety

10-20mg

Chill – 1 full dropper when feeling anxiety come on OR 1/2 dropper for daily maintenance.

OG – 1 full dropper at once or 1/2 dropper a couple of hours apart for maintenance, general good vibes. Full dropper as needed for more severe anxiety.

CBD For Anxiety And Mood Disorders

charlie brown "my anxiety has anxieties"
Guest Contributor: Joe Powers

Does CBD have the potential to help relieve common symptoms associated with anxiety and mood disorders?

Anxiety and mood disorders are increasingly problematic and more people have been turning towards alternative, natural remedies – such as hemp CBD (cannabidiol). Alternative remedies are growing in popularity due to the limitations of traditional approaches. What do you do when the traditional approaches for finding relief aren’t as effective as you might have hoped for or come with side effects that are less than desirable?

CBD is recognized as providing all sorts of relief when taken as a “food supplement.” In the attempt to find relief, CBD as a food supplement could provide much needed relief from common symptoms associated with anxiety and mood disorders.

What are Anxiety and Mood Disorders?

Anxiety and mood disorders may be related but are not considered the same or similar disorders. This is due to the fact that anxiety doesn’t necessarily have a “direct” influence on mood.

What is anxiety disorder?

According to research, anxiety can be a normal part of daily life. What this means is your anxiety is a type of COMMANDING signal – to the nervous system – saying STOP and rethink your very next action or decision.

Fear and anxiety come from the perception that you’re in immediate (real or perceived) danger and you MUST do something NOW to avoid potential permanent damage – to you or a loved one.

When looked at objectively, anxiety could provide a sort of benefit – to the end of having a few extra moments before making a potentially irreversible decision.

Anxiety – as a disorder – becomes problematic when the anxiety sticks around and doesn’t go away. Anxiety becomes a “disorder” when the feeling of worry, helplessness, and/or fear are strong enough to interfere with normal daily routine activities.

  • Those suffering from an anxiety disorder may feel uncertain or nervous about outcomes, events or even about something that hasn’t happened yet. If anxiety gets intense enough, it can produce what’s known as an anxiety attack.
  • Anxiety attacks are a combination of physical and mental symptoms that are intense and overwhelming. The mental fear is so strong that it could affects the body severely. Mood disorders are a little bit different.

What is mood disorder?

Research shows mood disorders are a type of mental health condition – utilized by health professionals – to broadly describe all types of depressions, bipolar disorders and seasonal affective disorders.

  • Any type of mood disorder primarily involves an individual’s “persistent” mood – emotional state.

Types of anxiety and mood disorders?

As with most broadly labeled conditions, each disorder breaks down into more specific subcategories to help professionals determine best course of potential treatment.

Types of anxiety disorders include:

  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder.
  • Social Phobia (social interaction cause anxiety).
  • Panic Disorder (anxiety without any reasonable cause).
  • Agoraphobia (fear of places and situations).
  • Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
  • Obsessive-compulsive Disorder (OCD).

Common mood disorders include:

  • Major Depression.
  • Dysthymia (irritable mood that lasts for at least 2 years).
  • Bipolar Disorder.
  • Mood disorder related to some other medical condition.
  • Substance-induced mood disorder.

the symptoms of anxiety and depression

What are common symptoms of anxiety and mood disorder?

Common anxiety symptoms:

Anxiety isn’t necessarily a “bad” thing and its basic job is to alert you to potential danger. What’s labeled as anxiety, is a triggered response to a dangerous situation. Dangerous situations quickly impel us towards instant action. This instant action is either the unconscious decision to stay or instantly RUN away from real or perceived danger (the fight or flight response of the Parasympathetic Nervous System)

Anxiety and mood disorders become an issue when becoming stuck in a sustained cycle of feeling as though you’re constantly in a dangerous situation – thus triggering longer term anxiety responses. This becomes problematic when anxiety is triggered in inappropriate situations. Inappropriate situations are when you’re consistently not in any “real” [life-threatening] danger.

Common symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Restlessness.
  • Feeling on edge or wound-up.
  • Problems concentrating.
  • Having mind go blank.
  • Irritable.
  • Tension in muscles.
  • Challenge in controlling worry.
  • Problems falling asleep.
  • Difficulty staying asleep
  • Below satisfactory sleep.

worrier pose

Common symptoms of mood disorders vary towards specific disorder.

Signs and symptoms of common depressions include persistent sad, anxious or empty mood and much more. Common symptoms of bipolar disorder include; mood swinging from very UP and towards feeling very sad with various ranges in between. Major depression symptoms involve; having low energy, feeling hopeless or worthless and potentially feeling it all day and more.

Best ways to cope with anxiety and mood disorders?

Several methods are available to help you cope with anxiety and mood disorders. Coping mechanisms and strategies can begin working right away and other times could require a bit of persistence. Warning signs you shouldn’t ignore are poor self care, sudden mood change, substance abuse, appearing confused, talking about suicide, etc.

If warning signs appear TOO intense to treat yourself, it could be best to begin care with a professional who has experience in guiding you towards re-establishing healthy coping habits.

Coping strategies for anxiety and mood disorders include:

  • Eat a clean and balanced diet.
  • Avoid synthetic sugar and processed foods.
  • Avoid (limit) caffeine and alcohol.
  • Physical activity, yoga, tai chi, outdoor activities, etc.
  • Get enough rest.
  • Meditate.
  • Supplements
  • Reach out for support.

What natural remedies help anxiety and mood disorders?

Before deciding on the proper course of treatment, wise decision making could involve choosing the option that has the least potential for harmful and unwanted side effects. If your anxiety or mood disorder symptoms are causing daily interferences, making a few adjustments to daily habits might prove beneficial.

Trusted natural remedies to help smooth disorders – could be as simple as – making small changes to your diet, adding a daily supplement, utilizing essential oils or changing your lifestyle.

A few natural remedies include:

For safety purposes, before attempting to try anything, it’s best to first consult with your healthcare provider. A little guidance can go a long way in finding the quickest path towards finding proper relief.

How can CBD help with anxiety and mood disorders?

read: How the Herbs in Chill TONIC take CBD’s anxiety relief to the next level

Chill TONIC herbs
Chill TONIC combines CBD, Ashwagandha, Lemon Balm, & Passionflower to relieve anxiety, restore balance & Fix Your Vibe

CBD (cannabidiol) is a primary chemical compound located in the cannabis (hemp) plant.

  • CBD is non-psychoactive
  • Studies show its a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant.
  • These properties allow CBD to provide relief from the physical symptoms anxiety can produce.

Anxiety and mood disorders are more than a disorder that exists in the mind. Studies show anxiety and mood disorders can produce a wide range of physical symptoms that can dampen quality of life.

CBD can help anxiety and mood disorders by relieving muscle tensions, helping you feel relaxed, relieving headaches and uncomfortable tingling sensations and much more.

CBD also increases anandamide levels in the brain.

  • Anandamide is one of the few cannabinoids found naturally in the human body.
  • Anandamide is responsible for regulating levels of other chemicals found in the brain, including serotonin and dopamine.
  • By increasing anandamide levels, CBD ultimately regulates other important neurotransmitters as well.

Researchers used imaging scans to understand which brain regions are involved with CBD’s anti-anxiety effects.

They found that CBD causes a reduction in blood flow to specific regions of the brain linked to anxiety, such as the hypothalamus. These regions typically become super overactive with persistent anxiety disorders, but CBD was shown to decrease activity/blood flow to those overactive regions. CBD was also effective at reducing the overall anxiety scores of participants in the study!

CBD has been shown to balance  the endocannabinoid system of depressed patients and acts on a serotonin receptor that influences symptoms of depression.

This has opened the door for clinicians and patients alike seeking alternative ways of treating depression. Unlike CBD, current antidepressant medications have significant side effects and may take several weeks to begin working.

Mental health is a subject that we, as a society, need to become more comfortable discussing. Everybody is impacted by mental health issues in one way or another. Being able to provide natural solutions to address anxiety and depression is what we at TONIC are most proud of. We want to elevate the conversation around mental health & cannabis in order to inform more people that they are not alone and pharmaceuticals with harsh side effects are not the only choice.

Chill Harder: TONIC’s Herbal Magic

Herbs

Understanding How the Calming Herbs in Your TONIC Help You Relieve Anxiety, Improve Sleep & #FixYourVibe

What Makes TONIC Different?

The magic of TONIC comes from our Special Sauce: a unique blend of purposeful, plant-based ingredients that work together to enhance the effects of CBD. TONIC OG & Chill TONIC  both contain herbal extracts that take CBD’s balancing, restorative & anxiety relieving effects to the next level. These organic, healing herbs are extracted in small batches before being combined with lab-verified, broad spectrum CBD distillate (0 THC) , black seed oil, & pure locally sourced maple syrup to make your handcrafted TONIC Dose.

Ashwagandha

Found in both our OG & Chill blends, Ashwagandha is a powerful adaptogen that can make a significant difference in how your body& mind handle stress.

Adaptogens in general are

  • nontoxic substances (usually plant-based)
  • increase the body’s ability to resist the damaging effects of stress
  • promote or restore normal physiological functioning.

Adaptogens have one goal: achieve & maintain homeostasis (your ideal state of internal balance). CBD can also be considered an adaptogen as it exerts a normalizing effect on the body, stabilizing your internal environment amidst an unstable external environment.

Ashwagandha has been shown to lower cortisol levels. Cortisol is also known as the stress hormone. While it is necessary in the right time/amount, chronically elevated cortisol levels keeps your system in “panic mode”. When this happens your body&mind are so focused on surviving that they aren’t able to start thriving.

“Cortisol curbs functions that would be nonessential or detrimental in a fight-or-flight situation. It alters immune system responses and suppresses the digestive system, the reproductive system and growth processes. This complex natural alarm system also communicates with regions of your brain that control mood, motivation and fear.” (Mayo Clinic)

Lowering cortisol levels allows you to get out of fight-or-flight mode and start livin’ easy with your rest-and-digest system in full swing.

Ashwagandha has been shown to lower blood sugar levels in normal populations as well as in those with diabetic conditions. It also has pretty amazing effects on physical endurance and inflammation but its most notable use is definitely its ability to relieve anxiety and increase mental clarity under times of high stress/fatigue.

TONIC OG - adaptogenic CBD and Ashwagandha
OG combines CBD& Ashwagandha

Lemon Balm

Lemon Balm is used in Chill TONIC, to increase the anti-anxiety effects of CBD+Ashwagandha. It has pretty amazing benefits such as

  • Relieving stress& anxiety
  • Reducing inflammation
  • Very strong antioxidant effects
  • Upregulates the protein responsible for the growth & survival of brain cells

We went over how Ashwagandha helps you defend against the effects of chronic stress, so now I want to show you Lemon Balm takes that to the next level & helps to fight the downward spiral.

  • Chronic stress reduces memory capacity & the brain’s ability to transmit to signal between neurons efficiently.
  • ACh levels decline
    • ACh improves memory, recall & cognition
    • Lemon Balm increases the amount of available of ACh (acetylcholine) by blocking an enzyme (AChE) that breaks down ACh.
  • Toxins kill brain cells, free radicals destroy neurons & synapses
    • Lemon Balm contains a compound called Eugenol which is an amazing antioxidant.
    • Eugenol boosts the body’s natural healing process by eliminating free radicals that damage brain cells
    • Another compound in Lemon Balm, Rosmarinic Acid, increases presence of the protein responsible for the growth & survival of brain cells.

A study was done to look into the effect of Lemon Balm on mild-to-moderate anxiety disorders and sleep disturbances.

  • The Result >> improvement in symptoms of anxiety and insomnia
    • 95% of subjects responded to the treatment
    • 70% achieved full relief from anxiety, 85% from insomnia, 70% from both. (NDNR)

Lemon Balm has a profound effect on the neurotransmitter GABA… so does Passionflower, so let’s move on to the last piece of the Chill puzzle to go over GABA & why it is so important.

Passionflower

Passionflower is a calming herb that promotes relaxation& peace of mind. It has been shown to really help anxiety symptoms like racing thoughts, restlessness & insomnia.

Studies have shown that Passionflower could be just as effective as pharmaceuticals in the treatment of General Anxiety Disorder & insomnia. So, how does Passionflower work its magic? GABA!

  • GABA is a neurotransmitter that plays a significant role in central nervous system activity.
  • GABA reduces neuron activity in some brain cells, allowing you to ease into a more relaxed state.

GABA-A receptors hang out in parts of the brain involved in sleep, including the thalamus.

Passionflower works the same way sedative drugs like benzos as far as its effect on GABA-A receptors (NDNR)

  • Reduces waking in the middle of the night
  • Pumps up slow wave sleep (aka deep sleep aka the holy savior)
  • The difference between Passionflower & benzos? Passionflower doesn’t come with the grogginess, hangover effect or risk of dependency (CHA CHING)

Passionflower has been shown to be even more effective when combined with other similar herbs, such as Lemon Balm! So, let’s circle back…

  • A study was done on the effects of all different anti-anxiety botanicals and their actions GABA-involved enzymes
  • The Result >> Lemon Balm for the win!!
    • Lemon Balm significantly slowed the action of an enzyme that breaks down GABA, allowing for that GABAgoodgood to flow freely & provide some hardcore chill (NDNR)
Chill TONIC herbs
Chill TONIC combines CBD, Ashwagandha, Lemon Balm, & Passionflower

Putting it All Together

CBD, Ashwagandha, Lemon Balm & Passionflower all have their own ways of relieving the symptoms of anxiety, improving mental clarity, while promoting overall balance& wellness. They all have their own way of going about it, but the endgame remains the same: improve your mental health & #FixYourVibe.

Try TONIC OG if you are looking for mild to moderate anxiety relief, increased clarity, improved mood, greater overall balance & a stronger, more efficient stress response.

Chill TONIC is the best choice if you need stronger anxiety relief & want to improve your sleep (as well as get all of the benefits of OG)
Personally, I like to use OG during the day & Chill at night. If this sounds like the split you would need as well, then definitely go with the Good Vibe Tribe (OG Chill & Warrior – $165 value for only $125!!!)

Should You Be Supplementing with CBD?

elevate

Cannabinoid supplements like CBD could be the key to restoring balance,

improving overall wellness & fixing your vibe!

The Endocannabinoid System

This vast communication network is in charge of regulating important physiological functions to achieve and maintain homeostasis (the body’s ideal state of balance). Although we all have this system within us, it wasn’t actually discovered and understood until approximately 30 years ago!

Endocannabinoids vs. Phytocannabinoids
The precursors to discovering the Endocannabinoid System and its functions:

1) identifying the different compounds (phytocannabinoids, specifically THC) in the cannabis plant and researching how our bodies react with them. It became clear that we had receptors in the brain dedicated to processing these phytocannabinoids – but the question was why would we have an endogenous set of receptors for compounds that could only be produced externally?

2) the answer to that question came from identifying the first ENDOcannabinoid – compounds produced within our own bodies that activated the same molecular network as the phytocannabinoids.

“It was these discoveries, working backwards, tracing the metabolic pathways of THC, which allowed scientists to discover an entirely unknown molecular signaling system that resides within us – and within thousands of other biological lifeforms, basically everything on our planet with the exception of insects. Due to the role cannabis played in discovering this system it was rightfully named the endocannabinoid system. While we knew about the plant first – this cellular process has been happening within us for millions of years. According to Dr. John McPartland, the system started evolving as long ago as 600 million years back – when complex life meant a sponge.” – (Julia Granowicz)

Just like it is common for us to have hormonal imbalances or vitamin/nutrient deficiencies, it is often the case that we have endocannabinoid deficiencies (or imbalances).
Fortunately, just like a simple vitamin/supplement regimen can correct hormonal or nutritional deficiencies, phytocannabinoid supplementation can correct an endocannabinoid imbalance & restore optimal function of your Endocannabinoid System.

“There were never so many able, active minds at work on the problems of disease as now, and all their discoveries are tending toward the simple truth that you can’t improve on nature.”

– Thomas Edison, 1902

All About Balance

Homeostasis is the ideal state of balance that your body is always striving towards. When this balance is achieved, all systems are working at high efficiency. Mental/physical/environmental stressors move us further away from homeostasis and tend to lock us down in a vicious cycle of inflammation, imbalance & forces us to live in fight-or-flight panic mode.

CBD works with the CB2 receptors of the Endocannabinoid System and are primarily concentrated in areas involved with the Parasympathetic Nervous System (the rest&digest system that allows you to stop focusing on simply surviving & start focusing on thriving).
CBD…

  • regulates anxiety/mood/stress response
  • relieves inflammation
  • improves immune function
  • boosts mental clarity.
  • is helpful for digestion and metabolism as it regulates blood sugar levels and has high receptor concentration in the gut and liver.

Make Your Body Work For You, Not Against You

Supplementing with CBD helps trigger your body’s natural endocannabinoid production by waking up latent receptor sites and increasing the sensitivity at those sites. This means that rather than building up a tolerance to CBD, you actually start to require a smaller dosage as you continue use!

CBD and other cannabinoid-based therapies have been used to treat:
– Anxiety/depression
– Epilepsy
– MS
– Fibromyalgia
– Chronic Pain
– Tumors/cancer
– Diabetes
– Sleep
– Appetite
– Focus/ADHD
– Symptoms of Autism

The amazing thing is that in discovering the fact that these all-too-common ailments can be treated by activating&balancing the Endocannabinoid System, it became apparent that it was possible to prevent these issues from cropping up in the first place by maintaining a healthy, well-functioning ECS.

Of course, if you are suffering from any serious medical conditions or are on other medications please consult with your doctor and do your research before starting any new supplement like CBD. I am not claiming that CBD will be the miracle that solves all your problems but taking control of a major (and often neglected) regulatory system on your body is a gigantic step in the right direction.

#FixYourVibe – The Meaning Behind the Motto

The #FixYourVibe Guide to…. Fixing Your Vibe

I want to help you guys understand why it was so easy for me to boil down TONIC’s mission+purpose into 1 simple hashtag. After reading this, hopefully you will have a better idea of what your “vibe” really entails and why keeping it in tiptop shape is so important.

Everything in the universe is simply energy vibrating at various frequencies – everything you see, including yourself, is made up of vibrational energy fields at the quantum level. We are made up of different energy levels – mental, physical, emotional and spiritual – which all vibrate at their own frequencies to make up your “overall vibration of being” (Sturdy).
Because this vibrational energy is attached to literally everything, our own energy (or “vibe”) is very susceptible to the vibe of others. We have all been there – in a toxic relationship that brings you down or, on a more day-to-day level, in a situation where you become uncomfortable/quickly drained/foggy and you can’t put your finger on it but just know that there is “bad vibes” around. Our vibes are also very dependent on our internal state and the flow of energy through our mental, physical, emotional and spiritual fields.

Your vibrational energy is something to take care of because it is how you connect with the universe.
If the universe is vibrating energy, and you are vibrating energy, but you are vibrating at a much lower frequency, the universe is going to look at you the same way you look at that sketchy situation described above. “idk, man, I’m just not feeling this vibe” – the Universe talking about you when you are trying to move through life with a weakass vibe.
On the other hand, when you are vibrating at a high frequency the Universe is like “hell yeah, I got you” and all of a sudden things start falling into place.

It is very common to ride generally high vibes but just need some maintenance to keep that going.
Your energy needs nurturing. Just like anything else, it is work… it’s great work! (meditation, breathing, connecting to your thoughts, journaling, a long bath, reading, eating better, moving, generally doing more of what makes you happy)… but it’s work.
All of those things sound fantastic and you are probably sitting here reading this saying to yourself “yeah that sounds great, but who has the time?” BINGO. Therein lays the problem. You know what to do, you do it sometimes, you’re generally woke, but you are still [fill in the blank] – busy with work, busy with kids/family, feel selfish taking too much time for yourself because you are always worried about others, whatever it may be, but the endgame is the same: you are neglecting your vibe.Your physical & mental energy fields take a beating on the daily. Even when you are doing the right things like exercising all the time you’re body is going to hurt real bad (in a good way, but still, try to sit on the toilet after a rough leg day and tell me you don’t want to cry. I dare you). And mentally, we are bombarded with too much information throughout the day from social media, 24 hour news cycles, advertising everywhere you look, and then that is before you add in the mental stress of working or taking care of your family. Being sore and a little bit stressed doesn’t mean you have “bad” vibes, it makes you a normal modern human.…. And that is where TONIC comes in.

Yes, TONIC is fantastic if you have issues like anxiety, chronic pain, diabetes, epilepsy, gut issues, sleep issues, and those big time issues that can really weigh heavy on your vibrational energy.
But it is also fantastic when you are just trying to live your best life.

Taking vitamins/supplements doesn’t mean you’re sick and dying, it means that maybe you know you aren’t getting these things enough in your regular diet but you know they are really important for optimal health and wellness, so you want to ensure that you are giving your body what it needs.

  • The most important thing to understand about TONIC and CBD in general; it regulates and optimizes a huge communication network in our bodies that is responsible for controlling physiological functions like mood, sleep, pain perception, appetite, blood sugar, and more!!
  • Your Endocannabinoid System is proof that cannabinoids are our friends!
  • The ECS has one ultimate goal in all of those jobs it does: create balance.
  • When your mind and body are existing on two different planes you’re out of balance. When you’ve had a big project at work that you have been highly stressing over for an extended period of time you’re out of balance. When you are a new parent that hasn’t had a full night’s sleep in about a year you’re out of balance. When you are working out everyday and not giving your body a chance to recover you’re out of balance.
  • When you are out of balance your vibe is weak.
  • When your vibe is weak, you are disconnected from the energy of the universe.
  • When you are disconnected from that cosmic energy you are no longer in control.
  • The more you align your vibe with the vibe of everything around you, you will be amazed how “lucky” you get, how things just “coincidentally” start going your way, how you can start manifesting your thoughts into reality. It seems crazy, I know. But it’s not. It is science. There are metaphysical, spiritual layers and overtones, but stripped down it is proven science.
TONIC brings you into alignment by not only balancing your ECS to create homeostasis, but also balancing your adrenals/hormonal output with Ashwagandha Root (found in our OG & Chill blends) and providing superfoods like Black Seed Oil, MCT Oil & Pure Maple Syrup (our Special Sauce, found in every TONIC Dose) to create optimal wellness via every possible pathway.

The Missing Link

plants are friends

Your Endocannabinoid System could be the key to unlocking your full potential

It may seem unbelievable to some that the cannabis can have such a profound effect on our health; that one plant can help so many different conditions; that it can provide both palliative and curative actions safely and powerfully.

The seemingly impossible abilities of medicinal cannabis left many questions to be answered, leading to a lot of studies and research, and to the ultimate discovery of a previously unknown physiologic system, a central component of the health and healing of every human (and most animals): the Endocannabinoid System.

Understanding the ECS

The Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is a vast network of chemical compounds and receptors found throughout the body: in the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells.

In each area, the ECS performs different tasks, but the objective is always the same: homeostasis (keeping a stable internal environment despite changes in the external environment)

“Endocannabinoids and cannabinoids are also found at the intersection of the body’s various systems, allowing communication and coordination between different cell types. For example, at the site of an injury cannabinoids decrease the release of activators and sensitizers from the injured tissue, stabilizing the nerve cell to prevent excessive firing, and calming nearby immune cells to prevent the release of pro-inflammatory substances. Three different mechanisms of action on three different cell types for a single purpose: minimize the pain and damage caused by the injury. The ECS, with its complex actions in our immune system, nervous system, and all of the body’s organs, is literally a bridge between body and mind. By understanding this system we begin to see a mechanism that explains how states of consciousness can promote health or disease.” Dr. Dustin Sulak

Endocannabinoids are produced by the body

Phytocannabinoids are found in the cannabis plant and stimulate cannabinoid receptors when ingested or applied topically.

A balanced, high-functioning ECS helps create a balanced, high functioning body, and that is why it is so important to supplement with phytocannabinoids.

  • Just like we take things like probiotics to increase digestive health or CoQ10 for cardiovascular health, we should be supplementing cannabinoids for optimal ECS function.

  • Taking a cannabinoid supplement like TONIC can signal the body to make more endocannabinoids and build more cannabinoid receptors

  • More receptors lead to an increased cannabinoid sensitivity to cannabinoids; you start to require smaller doses to produce big effects and your baseline endocannabinoid activity increases.

    • “I believe that small, regular doses of cannabis might act as a tonic to our most central physiologic healing system.” Dr. Dustin Sulak  (he even called it a “TONIC”… cool!!!!)

Is Inflammation Burning You Out?

spongebob dire

Where There’s [Pain, Stress, Sickness, Fatigue, Poor Sleep, Bad Diet] … There’s Inflammation

Are you in pain? Tired all of the time? Breaking out? Breaking down? Digestive issues? Can’t lose weight?

The Problem…. Chronic Inflammation // The Solution… Cannabidiol (CBD)

  • Inflammation is your body’s natural immune response.

  • In acute cases of injury, infection or irritation, it is beneficial and necessary for healing and survival. But, chronic inflammation is the common denominator of all disease!

Chronic inflammation can lead to:

  • allergies
  • asthma
  • arthritis
  • cancer
  • autoimmune disease
  • bursitis
  • colitis
  • heart disease
  • infection
  • osteoporosis
  • tendonitis and more.

Reducing inflammation can go a long way towards preventing and reversing disease, slowing the aging process and keeping you healthy and biologically young.

CBD interacts with CB2 receptors of the Endocannabinoid System

These receptors are mostly found on the cells of the immune system.

Supplementing with CBD can regulate your immune response, quell inflammation and act as a potent treatment against inflammatory disorders!

  • When you are inflamed, your body cannot attain homeostasis (the state of balance our bodies are always striving towards)

  • Your Endocannabinoid System is a homeostatic regulator and CBD is an endocannabinoid modulator.

  • This means that supplementing with CBD regulates your regulatory system AKA it gives you what you need to put out the fires that are burning you out!

Why Are You Chronically Inflamed?

First of all, you are not alone. Most Americans suffer from chronic inflammation because of the Standard American Diet, or ‘SAD’ (in more ways than one);

  • Too many refined sugars and carbohydrates
  • too many chemicals, preservatives and hormones
  • not enough antioxidants and nutrients.
  • Environmental toxins
  • poor sleep
  • Another big inflammation booster is stress.
    • Cortisol (your stress/fight or flight hormone) becomes persistently elevated during times of prolonged stress, causing inflammation by putting your immune system and adrenals into overdrive.

Chronic inflammation is also an issue for seemingly healthy athletes and fitness enthusiasts.

Working out causes micro-traumas to the muscle and essentially breaks you down in order to build you back stronger.

But, what happens when you don’t take the proper steps to rebuild?

If you aren’t taking enough recovery time, eating enough protein and nutrient-dense foods, and letting your body heal, you are not allowing the acute, controlled inflammatory response to subside.

This results in low-grade chronic inflammation which will ultimately hinder your goals. Tissue that does not heal completely produce inflammatory chemicals that promote inflammation throughout the whole body.

CBD to the Rescue

CBD is an immunoregulator. It interacts with CB2 receptors of the Endocannabinoid System, which have the highest concentrations throughout the immune system.

Cannabinoids suppress the inflammatory response and decrease disease by regulating the activity neurotransmitters and receptor sites that play a critical role in immune function.

CBD, and cannabinoids in general, have a powerful antioxidant effect, helping free the body of free radicals.

  • Chronically high levels of free radicals in your body cause a prolonged immune response
  • a prolonged immune response is just another way of saying… you guessed it… CHRONIC INFLAMMATION!

A study published in the Free Radical Biology & Medicine Journal showed that CBD can be helpful in lessening the impact of inflammation caused by oxidative stress, decreasing the risk of organ damage and dysfunction.

When your immune system is on the fritz, your body is in attack mode; it sees threats all over the place and is more concerned about mitigating disaster than building strength and vitality.

CBD: Your Body’s Ultimate Firefighter

Not only does it directly regulate the immune system by interacting with the CB2 receptors within the immune system, CBD also helps to relieve anxiety and regulate sleep which lowers cortisol levels and allows your body to chill out.

When inflammation is present, homeostasis (the body’s ideal state of balance) cannot be attained.

CBD reduces inflammation, bringing us closer to achieving homeostasis. It also balances our Endocannabinoid System, which plays a very important role in regulating the essential balance between mind and body.

TONIC CBD’s OG & CHILL Doses take these capabilities a step further by adding adaptogenic Ashwagandha Root.

Ashwagandha is a restorative and balancing herb that reduces the effects of chronic stress, boosts immune function and relieves anxiety, working synergistically with full spectrum hemp extract to make you feel better, look better, and live better.

Immune System Regulation + Stress Relief + Endocannabinoid System Balance = Inflammation’s Worst Nightmare.

Restore Balance & Fix Your Vibe with Adaptogens!

adaptogens

Mental & physical stress leads to too much cortisol. Too much cortisol shoves you out of balance & leads to a bunch of crappy symptoms that most of us have become all too familiar with.

Adaptogens adapt to your individual needs in order to restore balance and maintain homeostasis.

CBD & Ashwagandha are adaptogenic & provide an all-natural, non-toxic & effective way to:

  • Reduce cortisol
  • Regulate serotonin & GABA levels (neurotransmitters that affect mood, sleep, anxiety)
  • Create systemic balance
  • Defend against the negative effects of chronic stress

Both of these powerful adaptogens can be found in our TONIC OG & Chill TONIC

Stress: the unwelcome guest squatting in our lives

Whether it is due to turning on the news, sitting in traffic, financial security, scrolling through the insanity on your Facebook feed, working out without leaving time for proper recovery, or trying to get a handle on the ever-illusive work/life balance, your body only knows one thing: it is stressed.

Chronic stress = chronically elevated cortisol levels = fatigue, poor sleep, weakened immune function, low sex drive, weight gain and general crappiness.

So, if stress isn’t something we can necessarily avoid, what do you do to slow the cascading flow of cortisol that is carrying you gently into the darkness?

GET YOURSELF SOME ADAPTOGENS

Adaptogens protect the body from the effects of chronic stress and provide heavy duty support for your body’s natural resistance to “adverse influences” (AKA anything that taxes the body either mentally or physically).

As the name suggests, adaptogens ADAPT to your body’s individual needs, with their end goal always being homeostasis – the body’s ideal state of balance.

They support healthy adrenals: glands that regulate your hormonal response to stress and help you cope with anxiety and fatigue.

When you’re always stressed and not taking the time to reset and practice self-care, your adrenals get real sick of your bullshit and start to give up.

Supplementing with adaptogens lowers cortisol levels and allows your exhausted adrenal glands to get some much-needed R&R, restoring their proper function.

tonic doses

TONIC brings together 2 Adaptogenic MVPsCBD & Ashwagandha – for the ultimate way to fight stress, restore balance & fix your vibe.

This Power Couple combines their dynamic regulatory & healing abilities to

o   Relieve anxiety & keep cortisol low

o   Improve immune function & fight inflammation

o   Increase focus, endurance & mental clarity

o   Achieve homeostasis, allowing your body to take a nice, cleansing exhale & just chill

Cannabidiol

CBD is one of the most abundant cannabinoids found in the cannabis plant, but it has long been relegated to standing in the shadow of THC – the cannabinoid that creates the high associated with cannabis.

CBD is finally starting to get the recognition it deserves and more and more people are experiencing the amazing benefits of this comprehensive adaptogen.

The power of CBD starts in the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) – the vast communication network throughout our bodies that regulates vital physiological functions such as sleep, mood, appetite, blood sugar, immune function and pain perception.

We have Endocannabinoid receptors throughout our nervous system, immune system, and various organs (including the skin, which is why topicals are so effective!).

When our ECS is not functioning properly (cannabinoid deficiencies or imbalances) it can result in issues such as migraines, chronic pain, autoimmune issues or inflammatory disease. How do you bring it back into balance? Supplement with CBD!

What you can expect from adding CBD into your routine:

  • Less inflammation
  • Less anxiety
  • Less Pain
  • Better mood
  • Better immune function
  • Better sleep
  • CBD is also an anti-epileptic, anti-bacterial and anti-spasmodic!

Ashwagandha

Ashwagandha gained its street cred for its ability to reduce stress & anxiety in the face of fatigue, increase physical performance, and bring the body into balance. It has long been a staple in Ayurvedic & Chinese medicines because of its powerful yet all-natural restorative benefits:

  • Lower cortisol levels (Confirmed by human studies that revealed a 26% decrease in cortisol after taking Ashwagandha)
  • Stronger defenses against incoming stressors.
  • Positive effects on memory and neuron regeneration, which makes it a promising option to ward off dementia.
  • Increased focus and mental clarity, even during times of stress & fatigue
  • Improved physical endurance & performance (Study showed ncreased VO2 Max (aerobic capacity / how efficiently your body can take in & use Oxygen during intense exercise) with Ashwagandha supplementation, even in elite athletes!)

Get all of the amazing benefits of adaptogens from TONIC OG – the original blend combining CBD+Ashwagandha to calm the mind, heal the body & fuel the soul.

#FixYourVibe Guide: CBD+Pain Relief

pain relief power pack

This is a MUST READ if you fall into either one of these categories:

  1. You suffer from pain that gets in the way of your daily activities.
  2. You generally feel pretty good but
    1. want to recover faster from your workouts
    2. could use some help during certain times of the month – talking to you ladies!
    3. you suffer from seasonal allergies/want to relieve sinus pain & headaches.

Many people have caught on to CBD’s pain relieving abilities (even Mandy Moore & Olivia Wilde have been using CBD for pain relief, pro UFC fighter Nate Diaz uses it to help him recover!!).

But with all the buzz about CBD and all of the different options out there when it comes to dosages and delivery methods (sublingual, topical, vape, edibles) it could be difficult to know what is best for you and your pain.

NEW PRODUCT ALERT: PAIN RELIEF POWER PACK

TONIC Doses vs. TONIC Topicals

TONIC Doses are sublingual drops (you can also put them in a drink like coffee, tea, or smoothies, but absorption is most efficient under the tongue).
  • Doses are great options for chronic, widespread pain
    • Nerve pain, migraines, menstrual cramps, chronic back pain, fibromyalgia/MS, widespread arthritis/rheumatism.
  • Doses enter your bloodstream and take down inflammation from the inside out. You can think of taking a Dose like taking an Advil or Tylenol – once it is ingested it finds the inflammation/pain and gets the job done!
  • Why is it a better option than traditional OTC pain relievers?
    • IT IS NON-TOXIC, does not cause any harm to your kidneys/stomach/liver
    • Non habit-forming
    • You don’t build up a tolerance to it! If anything your Endocannabinoid System becomes better conditioned, your CB2 receptors become more active and you could actually use smaller, maintenance-type doses after a while!
TONIC Topicals are anti-inflammatory, analgesic (pain relieving) roll-on oils that you apply directly to painful areas.
  • Topicals are best for targeted, localized or acute relief from pain and inflammation
    • Sore muscles, tension/sinus headaches, menstrual cramps, localized joint pain, razor burn, trigger points
  • They don’t enter the bloodstream, they only penetrate the tissue in the area which it is applied.
  • TONIC’s roll-on oils have the same benefits as Doses when it comes to their safety superiority over OTC pain medications.
  • Both Warrior & Chronic contain only Pure CBD, MCT Oil and a unique blend of organic therapeutic grade essential oils that enhance the soothing, anti-inflammatory effects of CBD.

Recommendations

Higher doses of CBD are best for relieving systemic inflammation & pain.

That is why I personally recommend either Bare 800mg, 1000mg or Chill (800mg) for those looking for help with chronic, widespread, extreme or nerve related pain.

TONIC sticks with the efficacy of high doses when it comes to our Topical blends.

We provide super-concentrated blends of either 200mg or 300mg CBD in a 10mL bottle (many other topical pain relief products out there pack that same dosage in 30-50mL bottles!!)
Convenient, concentrated, effective and organic all for only a $25-$30 price tag. Unbeatable 🙂

I recommend Warrior TONIC for:

  • sore muscles
  • tension
  • sinus pressure
  • razor burn
  • moderate menstrual cramps (for really bad cramps, Chronic TONIC may be your better option)

Chronic is better for:

  • joint pain (arthritis, rheumatism)
  • persistent, deep pain.

For conditions like nerve pain, fibromyalgia, MS, or arthritis you could always benefit from the general anti-inflammatory effects of CBD (Doses).

But when you experience flare ups or particularly painful days it is useful to bring in some extra help in those triggered areas (Topicals).

That is why I recommend a combination of Bare 800 or 1000mg along with Chronic TONIC for those cases. (Which is why we are now offering the Pain Relief Power Pack!!!)

Ingredient Spotlight: Black Seed Oil

tonic doses

Ask & You Shall Receive…. After posting an Instagram Poll the other day asking if you guys wanted to know more about Black Seed Oil, it was very clear that this crucial part of the TONIC’s Special Sauce is still a mystery to a lot of you out there. So, here is a breakdown of BSO (Nigella Sativa) & all of its mind-blowing benefits.

What is Black Seed Oil?

black seed oil

Native to South/Southwest Asia, BSO is also known as Nigella Sativa, Black Cumin Seed, or by its Arabic name – Haba-al-barakah, which means ‘the seed of blessing’.

Many health experts claim that Black Seed Oil is a true panacea: it is able to help treat everything from allergies to hypertension (it is often said that it can treat everything except death).

Black Seed Oil has been applied topically and taken orally for thousands of years to help ailments from bruises and bad hair to colds and snakebites to headaches and indigestion. Since 1965 nearly 1000 scientific articles have been published about Nigella Sativa, documenting its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial, anticancer and immune-enhancing properties. Human studies have been more prolific the past couple of decades and has helped scientists pinpoint some more specific benefits.

Phytochemicals: The Source of Black Seed Oil’s Powers

Black Seed Oil is rich in 3 key natural chemicals:

  1. Thymoquinone (TQ)
    1. Found to be best antifungal compound against all tested dermatophytes (pathogenic fungus that grows on skin, mucous membranes, hair, nails) and yeasts
  2. Thymohydroquinone (THQ)
    1. One of the most potent natural acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitors.
      1. AChE inhibitors are chemicals that stop enzyme activity therefore increasing the amount of acetylcholine that remains active in the brain and increasing the time that it stays active.
    2. We have all heard of AChE inhibitors in passing on medicine commercials, etc but here is a little breakdown of what they are useful for treating:
      1. Apathy, alzheimers, autism, glaucoma, dementia, neurodegenerative conditions, schizophrenia, parkinson’s
      2. With so many pharmaceutical AChE inhibitors that come with adverse side effects being prescribed everyday, an all-natural alternative that doesn’t carry any of those side effects is an amazing discovery!!
    3. Thymol
      1. Found to be best antifungal against molds

In a study published in the Egyptian Journal of Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, scientists tested Thymol, TQ & THQ against 30 human patheogens and were surprised to discover that each compound showed 100% inhibition for the 30 pathogens evalutated.

This study essentially proves that fungus and mold cannot exist in the presence of these phytochemicals, so it is no wonder why researchers are seeking to solve the superbug problem with Black Seed Oil.

The research on Black Seed Oil and its ability to treat “superbugs” is perhaps the most promising.

These multi-drug resistant bugs are becoming a significant public health risk according to the National Institute of Public Health.

  • A study conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College researchers set out to determine just how potent black seed oil against some of these superbugs and pared it against several antibiotics, such as Amoxicillin, Gatifloxacin and Tetracycline. According to the study, “Out of 144 strains tested, most of which were resistant to a number of antibiotics, 97 were inhibited by the oil of black cumin.”

Liver Health

The liver is one of the most important organs in the body. Nearly ever toxin gets processed through the liver and the bile from the liver is the key to digesting fats and keeping your mind and body happy and healthy. Liver function can be slowed due to medications, alcohol, or poor diet, but Black Seed Oil has been shown to be able to greatly speed up the liver’s healing process. In a recent study, scientists discovered that black seed oil benefits the function of the liver and helps prevent both damage and disease.

Diabetes

Explained in a recent article published by the Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, researchers from the Indian Council of Medical Research highlight that black seed oil “causes gradual partial regeneration of pancreatic beta-cells, increases the lowered serum insulin concentrations and decreases the elevated serum glucose.” This is actually quite profound because Nigella sativa is one of the few substances on the planet that is suggested to help prevent both type 1 and type 2 diabetes.

In fact, according to the study, black seed “improves glucose tolerance as efficiently as metformin; yet it has not shown significant adverse effects and has very low toxicity.” This is HUGE because metformin, one of the most commonly prescribed type 2 diabetes drugs, can cause a wide slew of side effects.

Weight Loss

Nigella Sativa hasn’t traditionally been used as a treatment for obesity, but its ability to lower inflammation and allow for more efficient bodily processes combined with its ability to lower these weight-gain triggers:

  • Appetite
  • Glucose absorption in the intestine
  • Liver gluconeogenesis
  • Blood glucose levels
  • Cholesterol
  • Triglycerides

makes Black Seed Oil an important supplement to combine with a healthy diet and workout regimen for maximal weight loss results.

  • A study of 90 obese women found that adding black seed oil to a low-calorie diet produced more weight loss than the diet alone. And a study of 250 men found that black seed oil by itself, or in combination with turmeric, produced some weight loss and reduced risk factors for diabetes.

Amino Acid Profile

Black Seed Oil contains 15 amino acids, including 8 of the 9 essential amino acids (histidine, isoleucine, leucine, lysine, methionine, phenylalanine, threonine and tryptophan). It also contains arginine – a semi-essential amino acid necessary for various metabolic processes. Arginine can improve blood flow, boost the immune system and stimulate the release of insulin and growth hormone.

Black Seed Oil & Cancer

Croatian scientists evaluated the antitumor activity of thymoquinone and thymohydroquinone in mice and discovered that the two phytochemicals resulted in 52 percent decrease in tumor cells.

Being rich in both chemicals, black seed is unique in that it can help prevent and treat cancer in a variety of ways, including:

  • Anti-proliferation
  • Apoptosis induction
  • Cell cycle arrest
  • Reactive oxygen species generation
  • Anti-metastasis
  • Anti-angiogenesis

Black Seed Oil can be found in every TONIC Dose!! Just another way TONIC is taking cannabinoid-based wellness to the next level 🙂

*Bare blends contain higher amounts of BSO than OG & Chill.
